Embroidery Standards

We generally do not recommend text smaller than 0.2" tall when using standard thread, as we cannot guarantee legibility at smaller sizes.

Fonts with serif details are especially challenging at smaller sizes because of the added complexity and fine points within the lettering. When using serif fonts below 0.2" tall, thin thread may be recommended to help improve clarity and detail.

Because thin thread requires significantly more stitches to cover the same area, it is not intended for larger logos or fills. Using thin thread on larger designs can dramatically increase stitch counts and production time.

For best results, thin thread is typically paired with a thinner needle. The thinner needle creates a smaller needle hole, which helps improve detail and legibility. However, thin needles are more fragile and cannot reliably be used on harder materials such as hats, bags, or other thick goods.

In those situations, we may still utilize thin thread with a standard needle to improve overall detail and readability, even though it does not provide the full benefit of the thin needle setup.

Thin thread is primarily used for small text and fine detail,
where standard thread may lose clarity or fill in smaller spaces.

Understanding Standards

Our standard embroidery sizing is based on proven placement guidelines for readability and visual balance, but final sizing may vary depending on garment type, material, and available decoration area. Maximum embroidery dimensions are adjusted as needed to ensure the best possible result for each specific item.
